County man set to celebrate 106

Automobiles were new to the world and the Marion County Courthouse had only been completed a few years before A.Z. Toney was born in Foxworth on July 28, 1912.

Toney’s friends and family are set to gather Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. at Duckworth Park to celebrate his 106th birthday. The event will take place in the Community Center.


Woman gets 18 years

A Columbia woman will serve 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter in connection with a 2016 shooting death in Hattiesburg.

On July 30, Breanna Conerly, 26, entered her plea in Lamar County before Judge Prentiss Harrell. Friday, Harrell sentenced her to 20 years in prison with 18 to serve.
