City weighs ice cream truck rules

The Board of Aldermen will study what other cities do regarding ice cream trucks before deciding if Columbia will allow them.

Gary Blackwell, who had brought the idea to the Board last month, visited again Tuesday to ask about the ordinance and then gave the history of the current ordinance, which prohibits ice cream trucks.

Reducing odds of school shooting

Michael Kelly says there are two things school districts can do to greatly reduce the chances of a shooting.

No. 1 is to have a zero-tolerance policy for bullying. The deputy director of the Columbia Law Enforcement Training Academy said for every school shooter one of the catalysts for why they did it was being picked on.








Lady Wildcats taste 1st postseason success since '09

While the Columbia Lady Wildcats goal for the year was to qualify for the postseason, they bested it Friday night with a doubleheader sweep in the first round over Southeast Lauderdale in convincing fashion.

Columbia outscored the Lady Tigers 30-9 in the doubleheader and is advancing to the second round for the first time since 2009.
