State has lost real leadership

I've always liked post-apocalyptic science fiction movies. You know, movies like “Planet of the Apes,” “The Time Machine,” “Mad Max,” “On the Beach,” “Book of Eli.” Mankind has blown it up and all is a wasteland. The characters struggle to survive. They scavenge the crumbling remains of a civilization  their ancestors built.

City weighs ice cream truck rules

The Board of Aldermen will study what other cities do regarding ice cream trucks before deciding if Columbia will allow them.

Gary Blackwell, who had brought the idea to the Board last month, visited again Tuesday to ask about the ordinance and then gave the history of the current ordinance, which prohibits ice cream trucks.

City to explore annexation

The City of Columbia may grow its borders if a study approved by the Board of Aldermen Monday shows the expansion is feasible.

In a special meeting Monday, the Board, Mayor Justin McKenzie and engineers Jeff Dungan and Sean Burns met with Mike Slaughter of Slaughter and Associates for nearly two hours at City Hall.
