Year per member of victim’s family

A Lumberton man received a 15-year sentence Tuesday afternoon — one year for each immediate family member of the Foxworth woman he killed while driving drunk.

Eric Lucas was sworn in as a member of the Columbia School District Board of Trustees Aug. 9, and the board wasted no time getting down to business with the beginning of the school year.

The Columbia Police Department is getting closer to being fully staffed as four new officers were sworn in Monday morning.

Columbia officials are checking downtown drainage, including using cameras on sewer lines, after a Friday downpour again caused flooding.

Helping addicts get free

Ashley Ardis, a young mother, shared her story Monday about battling drug addiction to more than 60 people, in hopes that others will realize help is out there.

The Columbia Police Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies teamed up Friday and worked into the wee hours Saturday rounding individuals up and colleting stolen property.









City to explore annexation

The City of Columbia may grow its borders if a study approved by the Board of Aldermen Monday shows the expansion is feasible.

In a special meeting Monday, the Board, Mayor Justin McKenzie and engineers Jeff Dungan and Sean Burns met with Mike Slaughter of Slaughter and Associates for nearly two hours at City Hall.
