Marion County’s Distinguished Young Woman Kaitlyn Bradford is back home now with memories and friendships to last a lifetime.

The West Marion High School senior recently competed in Meridian and said it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.


Woman gets 18 years

A Columbia woman will serve 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter in connection with a 2016 shooting death in Hattiesburg.

On July 30, Breanna Conerly, 26, entered her plea in Lamar County before Judge Prentiss Harrell. Friday, Harrell sentenced her to 20 years in prison with 18 to serve.








Schools kick off year

They did it in different ways, but the message was the same as teachers from the Columbia and Marion County school districts prepared for the start of school this week.

In Columbia, students head back to the books on Monday, and Marion County students will follow suit on Tuesday. This week, each district hosted a day of preparation.


CHS football tickets increase but all-sports pass available

Football tickets at Columbia High School for regular season games will increase from $6 to $7 this season.

The school board voted to allow the increase during a special meeting Tuesday while also approving an all-sports pass for $70 that could save money for families with athletes in several sports and avid Wildcat fans.
