Game is instant classic

I had an idea in mind for this column, but after witnessing the thriller that was the Columbia Wildcats hosting the East Marion Eagles Friday night, I felt that I had an obligation to hold onto my idea for my next column and talk about what transpired on the court and in the gym as a whole instead.



Hobgood signs with PRCC

Columbia High School baseball standout Trey Hobgood plans to continue his baseball career in college.

Last Friday, in front of family and teammates, the senior third baseman, first baseman and right-handed pitcher inked a scholarship offer to play for Pearl River Community College.


McDowell signs with ULM

Logan McDowell will follow his dreams to pitch at the Division I level after signing with the University of Louisiana at Monroe recently.

The former Columbia High standout and current pitcher on the staff at Meridian Community College will head to ULM after completing his sophomore season at MCC.


Eagles working out the kinks

Coming off of a heartbreaking 60-58 loss to Bay Springs on a buzzer-beating shot to open the regular season, East Marion dusted off the cobwebs and showed why it is on the short list for state title contention in Class 1A this season during the Lawrence County Holiday Tournament at Rod Paige Middle School.



CA archery building renovated

For the past several years, Columbia Academy archery coach Mike Barber has ascended the program to new heights.

Now Barber is looking to expand and took a large step in doing so by overseeing an overhaul of an old storage building on campus that was used for practice and turning it into a legitimate archery facility.
