Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, at Hathorn Funeral Home for Mr. Jack Terrell Wilkes Sr., 80, of Columbia, who died on Sunday, Feb. 12, at his residence. Interment was held in Bunker Hill Cemetery. Dr. Bryant Barnes officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 11 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Hathorn Funeral Home.

He was born in Columbia on Feb. 17, 1936. He was a mason, Air Force Veteran and of the Baptist faith. He was a member of First Baptist Church, a 1954 graduate of Columbia High School and had a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Ga. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, who will be missed dearly by his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Eula Mae Wilks; brothers, Charles Wilks and Earl Wilks, both of Columbia; sister, Audrey Burkett of Columbia and son-in-law, Ronnie Ard of Moselle.

Survivors include his wife, Eva Wilkes of Columbia; son, Jack Terrell “Terry” Wilkes Jr. of Columbia; daughters, Melody Cannon (Mark) of Hattiesburg, Cindy Ard of Moselle and Jan Meredith (Kip) of Sevierville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Bubba Whiting, Travis Ard, Chad Meredith, Zachary Graham and Luke Tant.

Honorary pallbearers were David Nichols, Randy Hogan and Tony Wilks.
