Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, in Kokomo Cemetery for Hattie Mae Summer, 77, of Columbia, who died on Friday, May 12, in Hattiesburg. Bro. Glenn Nace and Bro. Doug Barber officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, at Hathorn Funeral Home.

Growing up in the Brushy Creek Community, Hattie later moved with her husband to reside in Los Angeles, Calif. and Baton Rouge, La. She was a great storyteller. She loved to give to others. As a fantastic cook, she took great pleasure in sharing meals with many family and friends. Her creative spirit enjoyed painting and spending time traveling to see family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Alice Davis; her husband of 55 years, B.J. "Pete" Summer and sister, Ann Davis Ennis.

Survivors include her son, Greg Summer (Brandi) of Baton Rouge, La.; brothers, John Lewis Davis (Warrene) and Larue Davis (Hilda), all of Columbia and Harold Ray Davis (Eva Sue) of Tylertown; sisters, Nan Hathorn (David) and Jane Speights (Robert), all of Columbia and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers were Charlie Summer, Michael Summer, Allen Chance, Robbie Speights, Edward Summer and Ricky Summer.
