After a successful cruise-in and fireworks display last July 4, Main Street Manager Nik Ingram is hopeful that this year’s Freedom Fest can be even bigger and better.
Ingram spoke with the Columbia Board of Aldermen at its March 6 meeting and discussed plans for the July 7 event.

Columbia Police Chief Mike Cooper resigned Monday, and within hours the department had a new leader, Michael Kelly.
The chief since mid-2014 cited a growing business, Cooper’s Towing and Recovery, and frustrations with a lack of resources as reasons for stepping down.
A recent audit of the Marion County School District brought good results, which were shared in a Board meeting Monday night.
Donna Martin, director of operations for the district, presented the findings of the 63-page audit performed by McKenzie CPA PLLC.
